Croatian President Ivo Josipovic is to attend a summit of Central European heads of state in Bratislava on Wednesday and Thursday, which will focus on growth strategy and recovery from the economic crisis in Europe, the President's Office announced in a statement on Tuesday.
The summit will be hosted by Slovak President Ivan Gasparovic and it will also be an opportunity to mark the 20th anniversary of Slovakia's independence.
The participants in the 18th presidential summit will discuss the role of the so-called new EU member states and their added value for the Union, including their capacities to help the EU restore growth, according to the statement.
Europe is currently confronted with a difficult economic and social situation. European leaders have taken enormous efforts to consolidate public finance, get economic growth back on track and maintain employment. The dynamic region of Central Europe has the potential to play a positive role not only in consolidation efforts, but also in helping Europe to find its new place in a post-crisis world, the summit organiser said.
European Council President Herman Van Rompuy will be in attendance on the first day of the summit.
