Foreign press: Hague proclaims Operation Storm legitimate

ZAGREB, Nov 16 (Hina) - After the first news of the acquittal of Croatian generals Ante Gotovina and Mladen Markac by the Hague Tribunal, foreign press on Friday reported that Croatia was celebrating the final ruling which has removed the stigma of war crimes perpetrator from the country, while nearly everyone in Serbia condemns the decision.

The liberally conservative Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) described that in Croatia the two generals were considered to be heroes and that the Hague tribunal ruled that in defence terms the 1995 Operation Storm was legitimate.

"Croatia is innocent," FAZ cites Croatian media.

The Washington Post too reports that the atmosphere in Serbia was in complete contrast to that in Croatia.

The Guardian notes that the Appeal Chamber's verdict was welcomed in Croatia as confirmation of the justness of its war of independence.
