Bosnia sending military police to Afghanistan

The Bosnian parliament's lower house on Thursday gave its consent for increasing the number of Bosnian troops in NATO's ISAF mission to Afghanistan.

Under a decision previously adopted by the country's Presidency, alongside an infantry unit Bosnia and Herzegovina will now also have a military police unit within ISAF.

The 16-strong military police unit left for Afghanistan in late December.

Bosnian troops have been active within ISAF for three years as part of the Danish contingent. They have been engaged in less risky tasks such as securing military bases, but in future they are also expected to take part in combat in Kandahar and help in the training and supervision of the Afghan police.
