Nadal through to six French Open final
Nadal, who turned 25 Friday, will go for a record-tying sixth French Open title Sunday against either No. 2-ranked Novak Djokovic or third-seeded Roger Federer. Djokovic and Federer played their semifinal match later Friday.
Nadal out-battled Murray, the No 4 seed, 6-4, 7-5, 6-4. Nadal improved to 44-1 all-time at Roland Garros with the win. He won the French Open championship each year from 2005-08 and again last year.
His match Friday was closer than the score indicated. Murray had break-point opportunities in nine of Nadal's service games but only cashed in three of his 18 overall chances. And each of those was after Nadal had at least a one-break advantage in the set.
Nadal used the first two of his six breaks in building a 5-1 lead in the first set and saved a pair of break point before finishing off the 10th game. Murray and Nadal traded four breaks in the second set but Murray wasn't able to get the advantage and an 11th-game break put Nadal in position to go up by two sets.
Nadal opened the third set with another break and fought off a couple of break points before closing by holding serve -- as he did in the second set -- at love.
PARIS, June 3 (UPI) -- World No. 1 Rafael Nadal claimed a finals berth at the French Open with a straight-set victory Friday over Andy Murray.
