The Senate of the University of Zagreb: tuition fees won’t increase

Zagreb Faculty of Law, Zagreb University

The Senate of the University of Zagreb reached the final decision referring the number of entering students and the price of students’ participation in the first year of pre-graduate, integrated and vocational studies in the next academic year. They did this for four departments of the University after they had done the same for 29 faculties and academies.

There won’t be the price rise of the students’ participation in the cost of studies, so the tuition fees will remain the same as last year at the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty for Textile Technology, as the decision of the Senate says.

They hope to sign an agreement with the Ministry of Science, Education and Sports about covering the costs of participation for full-time students. In that way the students of the 1st year won’t have to participate in the costs of the studies.

In the next academic year there will be 300 students in the 1st year of the integrated studies of medicine at the Faculty for Medicine. All the students will study without participating in the costs of studies.

The number of students entering the Faculty of Kinesiology (part time students who study to become a professional coach) has been decreased by 100 compared to the number of such students before.   In the previous years this education took part at the college for Social Studies. According to this year’s decision, the number of entering students will be 300.

According to the decision of the Senate, the total number of students entering the University of Zagreb for pre-graduate, integrated and vocational studies for the next academic year is 12,493. The number of full time students will be 10,551.

The largest decrease is in Social and Human studies and partially in the area of engineering. The number has been decreased because of the capacity adjustments of some faculties according to the recommendations of the Senate from January 2012. There is also the need for providing necessary conditions for scientific activities and research which play an important role in the life of the University.
