Strait show stopped 2 songs in

KANSAS CITY, Mo., Feb. 26 (UPI) -- Country music icon George Strait left 18,000 Missouri fans without a show after he left the stage two songs into his act, saying he was too sick to go on.

Strait's Saturday concert at the Sprint Center in Kansas City, Mo., began at 9:15 p.m. with his play-on music, "Deep in The Heart of Texas." The "King of Country" hit the stage, strapped on his guitar and got through his first number, "Here for a Good Time" with, what appeared to be hoarseness in his voice.

Strait halted after his second song, "I Gotta Get To You."

"I just can't do it," Strait said, and told his enthusiastic audience the concert would have to be rescheduled to March 3 because he was ill and to hang on to their tickets, The Kansas City Star said.

The fans, though disappointed, stood and cheered.

"I'm glad George protected the integrity of his talent by not putting on a bad show," Mary Melton, of Kansas City posted on the Facebook page of KCTV-TV, Kansas City.

Martina McBride stepped in and entertained for more than an hour.
